The Reason Why Holiday Lighting Companies Are Going Permanent

Imagine this: It is 26th of December and your neighbor is up on a ladder already – with cold hands, shaky rungs – removing Christmas lights that he just installed two weeks earlier. At the same time the house on the opposite side of the street is as festive as well, and no one has touched a ladder since October. Such is the EverLights difference at work.

The Technology of the Shift.

Lighting in place is permanent outdoor lighting, on the roofline, eaves and architectural features, installed in fixed-channel LED systems. It is all in the hands of the homeowners who determine the color, pattern, brightness via an app. Hit one button and it switches to Halloween. Another tap, and it is Fourth of July. The hardware is fixed there all year round and all the hardware gets incorporated into the exterior of the home that it is so unobtrusive that the guests usually do not think about this existence until the lights are turned on.

This is where the holiday lighting companies have been forced to re-evaluate their business model as a whole. Conventionally, the crews arrived in November, placed temporary strand lights in place, and collected a removal fee in January and the cycle repeated.

A Revenue Revenue Game-Changer.

The fixed systems reverse that dialogue. Companies are no longer charged a one time installation fee but may charge subscription or maintenance package. A customer is charged a single time to purchase hardware, and then chooses to sign service contracts yearly. That is money that is coming in monthly and not only during the holiday crush. Companies that pivoted first are recording an extremely higher retention of customers – since once you have those fixtures installed in that soffit, you are not dialing a competitor.

Homeowners Are Hooked

Honestly? People love the convenience. There were no garbage cans with overflowing contents in the garage. In November there were no entangled wire disasters. Just open an app and go. It is addictive in the best sense possible because the freedom to program any color on any occasion – birthdays, sports events, and awareness months – is addictive.
